چکیده مقاله:
N,N-Diethyl meta Toluamide (DEET) is an insect repellent agent that contrary to its benefits,if is used in formulations with high skin permeation, will produce side effects of differentseverity. This study attempted to achieve a semi-solid DEET containing formulation withgood appearance, sufficient spreadity, suitable viscosity for tube and jar filling, compatible pHwith skin, reasonable stability, longer release time, and the less skin permeation. To obtainsuch a formulation, three types of DEET containing semi solids including gels (hydrophile),creams (emulsion) and ointments (lipophile), and their characteristics were compared with eachother and with Off! Brand. Results showed that one of the prepared creams with the properviscosity, stability, appearance and spreadity, had the least drug release in six hours and lessskin permeation of DEET as compared with Off!. Hence the preparation was introduced as theoptimal formulation.

Neurotoxicity and Mode of Action of N, N-Diethyl-Meta-Toluamide (DEET)
Recent studies suggest that N, N-diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor and that this action may result in neurotoxicity and pose a risk to humans from its use as an insect repellent. We investigated the mode of action of DEET neurotoxicity in order to define the specific neuronal targets related to its acute toxicity in insects and mammals. Although toxic to mosquit...

The paper deals with the aqueous environmental fate of N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET), one of the most widespread and efficient mosquito repellents. The investigation involved monitoring of the DEET decomposition and the identification of intermediate compounds. Initially, control experiments in the dark and under illumination were performed on sterilized and river water spiked with DEET, with ...

Pseudomonas putida DTB grew aerobically with N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET) as a sole carbon source, initially breaking it down into 3-methylbenzoate and diethylamine. The former was further metabolized via 3-methylcatechol and meta ring cleavage. A gene from DTB, dthA, was heterologously expressed and shown to encode the ability to hydrolyze DEET into 3-methylbenzoate and diethylamine.

Oxidative metabolism of the insect repellent N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET) by pooled human liver microsomes (HLM), rat liver microsomes (RLM), and mouse liver microsomes (MLM) was investigated. DEET is metabolized by cytochromes P450 (P450s) leading to the production of a ring methyl oxidation product, N,N-diethyl-m-hydroxymethylbenzamide (BALC), and an N-deethylated product, N-ethyl-m-toluami...
متن کاملShort Communication INSECT REPELLANT INTERACTIONS: SUNSCREENS ENHANCE DEET (N,N-DIETHYL-M-TOLUAMIDE) ABSORPTION
Toxicology studies are typically performed on single compounds, which we hypothesized would miss adverse synergies from chemical mixtures. This hypothesis was tested using an insect repellant and sunscreens because both groups include known permeation enhancers, with prior pediatric reports of toxicity from highly concentrated DEET (N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide). Using real-time mass spectroscopy in...

Exposure to N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET) commonly occurs in the general population and has been implicated as a contributory factor to the Gulf War Illness. The focus of the present studies was to determine the effect of coexposure factors, potentially encountered in a military environment, that could modulate transdermal flux of topically applied DEET. Factors investigated were vehicle, dose...
